Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know about Joulo, ERE credits and how the platform works.

ERE stands for Emissiereductie-eenheid (Emission Reduction Unit). Each MWh of renewable energy your charger consumes generates ERE credits. These are traded on the market and you receive the proceeds.

Joulo supports 90+ brands and 290+ models via 16 direct cloud integrations, platform backends and the universal OCPP 1.6J protocol • the only ERE registration provider combining all three connection routes. From Tesla to Alfen, from Easee to Wallbox.

Joulo charges a standard 20% service fee incl. VAT on your ERE revenue. Signing up is free • you only pay when you earn.

Each quarter your registered ERE credits are traded. After deducting the service fee, the net amount is deposited to your IBAN.

No. Joulo works entirely via the cloud. We connect to your existing charger • no additional hardware needed.

Until the quarterly payout, your ERE proceeds sit in a separate account at Rabobank that we keep apart from our working capital and do not use for our own operations.

Encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is fenced off per user at the database level (Row Level Security). IBANs are stored encrypted in Supabase Vault, OCPP connections run over wss:// with hashed credentials. Our information security is set up along ISO 27001:2022 and the infrastructure runs on Supabase and Cloudflare.

Your charging sessions and ERE registrations are kept for at least 5 years from the calendar year of registration, as required by the Dutch Regeling energie vervoer. This allows the NEa to audit or correct a registration up to 5 years back. For invoices and payouts the fiscal retention period of 7 years applies. You can close your account at any time; everything not covered by these obligations is then deleted.

Business accounts and HOAs can invite members with their own role: a viewer follows along read-only, a manager handles chargers and grid connections, and only the owner manages IBAN, mandate and members. One account can also hold multiple grid connections (EANs) and legal entities with their own payout IBAN. We are working on the same features for personal accounts.
