The vision and mission
One idea.
Joulo was built by two entrepreneurs with years of experience in fintech, compliance and software • both Tesla drivers. With the new ERE regulation we combine that expertise into a platform that automatically rewards home chargers.

// the mission
Accelerating the transition to electric driving.
Everything we build serves that one sentence. Electric driving should be beautiful and easy, and it is not yet everywhere. EREs are the start: they make an electric car cheaper to run. Then comes the rest of charging: sharing your charging station with your neighbours, smart charging at the cheapest moment, one charge card for the road, and charging points for businesses and homeowner associations that we operate. Every barrier we remove brings the switch closer.
Joulo at a glance
ERE registration for home chargers. Earn money for every kWh you charge at home. Joulo automatically registers your charging sessions as Emission Reduction Units (ERE) with the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa), sells them on your behalf and pays out quarterly. 20% service fee • discounts via referrals. Cancel yearly.
Works with your existing charger • the most automatic integrations. Joulo connects directly with 16 charger brands via their own cloud API: Tesla, Easee, Wallbox, Zaptec, Smappee, V2C, Enphase, NexBlue, ChargeAmps, Ohme, Blue Current, go-e, Victron, Ecotap, Volt Time and SolarEdge. Different brand? Our OCPP 1.6J gateway at ocpp.joulo.nl talks to virtually every modern charger • Alfen, ABB, KEBA, Schneider, Vestel and hundreds more. On top of that, Joulo syncs straight from the backends of charging platforms and energy companies, including Plugchoice. Joulo is the only ERE registration provider combining all three connection routes: cloud API, OCPP and platform backends. Everything runs fully automatically via cloud API or OCPP • you never enter meter readings by hand. A photo or manual entry is not a valid measurement source for registration and creates audit risk in the NEa verification; Joulo uses the full session data from the backend. Not MID-certified? We arrange an upgrade to a MID charger, or you request a Secondary Allocation Point (SAP) with your grid operator. The chargers we supply we source from Rexel, our procurement partner and one of the largest electrical wholesalers.
Web, iOS and Android. Full dashboard on joulo.nl with real-time insight into sessions, ERE credits and payouts. Native apps for iPhone and Android with the same data • with over 20,000 downloads the most-used ERE registration app in the Netherlands. For business partners (energy companies, installers, CPOs, fleet operators) we offer white-label landing pages, REST APIs, widgets and a partner dashboard.
// our story
Fintech DNA, built for the energy market.
Before Joulo existed, we built payment-gateway architecture, audit-compliance platforms and subscription systems at scale. That fintech experience is embedded in every part of Joulo: from automated NEa registration to the audit trail behind every charging session.
As Tesla drivers with Full Self-Driving, we know how great electric driving is. When we discovered that home charging generates emission credits, we saw the opportunity to combine fintech and energy into one platform that automatically rewards EV drivers.
// architecture
Built as
one system
Four layers: connections, memory, brain and insight. Together they read your sessions, run the numbers and pay out • without manual work.
01 · Connections
Joulo talks to 68 charger brands. Connecting often takes a single click.
02 · Memory
Every session, every kWh, every price • remembered and organised.
03 · Brain
Automatically validate, calculate and pay out. No hassle.
04 · Insight
Your dashboard, app and exports • always up to date.
ERE market
How we sell the credits.
A deliberate sales strategy, not speculation.
Joulo aggregates credits from thousands of home chargers and sells them directly to obligated parties under the Dutch Energy for Transport regulation: fuel suppliers and energy companies that must cover their annual obligation (14.4% in 2026, rising to 28.4% in 2030). By aggregating volume we negotiate terms an individual driver would never get on their own.
We pursue a deliberate strategy to consistently pay out a market-aligned price. The price itself remains subject to supply and demand • we always communicate the current guide price upfront and the actual realisation afterwards. No price guarantees, full traceability: every kWh, every certificate, every euro.

That background makes Joulo different: we understand how markets work, how to process data reliably and how to build a fair product that people trust.

// our approach
How we build
Three principles guide everything we build.
01 • Invisible
The best infrastructure goes unnoticed
Joulo works in the background • no manual work, no hassle. Registration, validation and payouts are fully automated.
02 • Fair
Every kWh is traceable
Every euro is accountable. Transparency is architecture: full audit trail with source, timestamp and mutations per session.
03 • Autonomy
The system runs itself
The system learns, validates and pays out. Without intervention, without delay. Built to scale without human bottlenecks.
